In 2000, Robin Niemitz came up with the wonderful idea for a Junior Fife & Drum Camp. Over the years, we have seen this camp grow and thrive. The hope in the early years was to have a camp where juniors could make friends, share music, and learn about this art form we all love. It would be a week in which young people could push themselves and their peers to higher musical standards and make friendships that last a lifetime.
The underlying vision was to instruct juniors and to pass along an appreciation for the music. Through this appreciation and instruction, we hoped we would also inspire some of the juniors to pass along the tradition and become teachers when they became adults. This has happened.
Since the inception of Junior Camp, we have seen many of our campers achieve wondrous heights with their music. (We’d love to list all of the campers, but there are far too many to put in this short introduction!) Over the years, many past campers have come back and volunteered their time at camp as instructors.
Our Lead Music Staff at camp has been always been comprised of amazing and talented musicians from the drum corps community. These talented individuals have stated through their own admission that they, “Wished they could have come to camp.”
2018 is a milestone. We are thrilled that on the 18th anniversary of Junior Camp, we announce with great pride that our Lead Music Staff is comprised ENTIRELY of past campers. This year’s music has been chosen, arranged, and written by “The Team” of musicians, a group of young men that we have watched grow up before our very eyes.
I am pleased to announce our Lead Music Staff for The Company of Fifers & Drummers Junior Camp 2018!
